Doodle 4 Google
Here's a note from Mrs. Heron about the project:

The Art Department participated in the "Doodle 4 Google" contest which is going on now.  Students were required to complete the project as a homework assignment and then were able to enter the Google contest if they wished.  We are very excited to announce that we have many wonderful pieces which are being submitted.  The Doodle 4 Google theme this year is:  What I’d like to do someday…  Each student needed to use their creativity to create their own interpretation of the Google logo.  They were able to use pencil, crayon, felt tip, paint or by using computer drawing or design software to complete the assignment.  I am sure Google will be excited to see all of the wonderful ideas that will be coming from Chardon Middle School.

Honoring Flight 93
The sixth grade students began work today on an exciting project to honor the memory of Flight 93. Guest artist Mr. Jimmie Woody of Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio kicked off the series of lessons by introducing the project. Mr. Woody is an actor who teaches at Tri C and has acted in many local productions as well as in NYC and Hollywood. He has worked with students in many local schools including Park Elementary last spring.

Students will learn about the events of September 11, 2001, and specifically about the story of Flight 93. They will also learn interviewing skills with Mr. Woody's help.  Members of the community will be invited to school to participate in interviews, and in mid-May, a play based on the findings will be presented at Geauga Theater. In addition to introducing the project, Mr. Woody did some improvisation activities with the students. There was a lot of enthusiasm, and students asked great questions.

Watch the video below to see the introduction to the project.

Let's Battle!
America's Battle of the Books (ABB) has arrived at CMS!

ABB is a club open to all CMS students who like to read. Students form teams, read as many of the books from the ABB list as possible, and battle other teams to find out who knows the most about the books.

If this sounds interesting to you, stop by the media center for a brochure or view and print the PDF here. You can also talk to or email Mrs. Ceraolo at [email protected] if you have questions or would like more info.
